New Open BIM event highlights international teams from around the world

Columbia, Md. (Nov. 26, 2012) – Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. is proud to announce its sponsorship of the first Open BIM event in Qatar. Organized by Asite, AEC3, buildingSMART MENA & India and BIM Journal, Build Qatar Live is a 48-hour virtual competition in which participants use cloud-based technology and a variety of software platforms to design a multi-use development for an internationally known site. The event will take place November 27-29, 2012.

“New technology is revolutionizing the way buildings are designed and how the public can be engaged in the process,” explains Nathan Doughty, COO of Asite. “By using the power of collaboration in the cloud and international developments in interoperability, Build Qatar Live shows the power of these new paradigms for architecture, engineering, planning and construction.”

All the information for this competition will be published in interoperable formats, and updates will be added to a public collaboration site on which visitors may comment.

Worldwide participation is encouraged, and awards will be given in four categories: “Best Use of BIM for Design, Drama and Excitement,” “Best Multi-disciplinary BIM and Use of Interoperability,” “Best Use of BIM for Sustainability or Constructability” andThe openBIM BUILD QATAR LIVE 2012 Award” (best overall).
