We’re proud to sponsor the CitiesAlive Student Design Challenge. Through this competition, undergraduate and graduate students around the world are invited to redesign a community center located in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco, California. The charge is to transform an ethnically diverse but highly urbanized landscape with limited open and recreational space into a facility that provides expanded space for the district’s 4,000 children. Visitors should be able to connect with nature through green roof and wall spaces and gardens, as well as learn about sustainable energy and water use.

The CitiesAlive Student Design Challenge, hosted on landscape architecture social media platform Land8.com, is an academic element of the industry’s annual CitiesAlive Green Roof and Wall Conference. The conference will take place in San Francisco from October 23-26, 2013 and is hosted by Green Roofs for Healthy Cities in partnership with the City of San Francisco Planning Department and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

First place winners will receive $2,000 cash, and the top eight designs will receive complimentary student passes to the CitiesAlive Green Roof and Wall Conference. Entrants who use Vectorworks software within their project will receive a professional license of Vectorworks Designer with Renderworks. Winning designs will be displayed at the CitiesAlive trade show on October 23 and 24, at a green roof- and wall-themed nightlife event at the Academy of Sciences on October 24, and online at Land8.com.

Judges for the challenge include landscape architects and planning professionals from the City of San Francisco’s Departments of Planning and Public Works, plus professionals from the Land8 and Green Roofs for Healthy Cities communities. In addition to Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc., sponsors include greenscreen, Permaloc, and LiveRoof, in partnership with the Northern California Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).

Planning to enter? Register for a free webinar on September 10 to learn how to incorporate Vectorworks software into your submission.
