CAD Technology brings Open BIM to Brazil

2012/07/03

CAD Technology, our distributor in Brazil, recently held an Open BIM tour in major cities across the South American country.

Open BIM with Vectorworks introduced participants to the concepts of Open BIM and how they are addressed in a real project from concept through construction documents, encompassing the disciplines of architecture, structural engineering, and energy analysis, as well as electrical, plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning, and construction 4D simulation. The inspiration for the Open BIM concept presentation was the Arboleda, a residential building constructed in the Dominican Republic using BIM and designed with Vectorworks software.

“In this Open BIM presentation, we see that the paradigm has already changed,” said attendee Miguel Cabral, owner of Cabral Arquitetos. “Now the exchange of information between the project members has become much more efficient and the documentation production much faster, clear, and accurate.”

Events were held in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul, from May 19-22, and were led by David Oliveira, owner of CAD Technology. Architectural Industry Specialist Luis Ruiz from Nemetschek Vectorworks traveled to Brazil to assist with the presentations.

“These presentations before professionals and students across Brazil were really rewarding for us,” said Oliveira. “But even more, to be able to participate in the preparation of materials of the Arboleda project gave us the chance to experience the real dimension of BIM and prove that the Open BIM approach really works with Vectorworks to produce great results.”

In between tour presentations, Oliveira and Ruiz visited local architectural firms in Brazil to discuss how to evolve their current workflows to BIM while using Vectorworks software.

Then in June, Ruiz packed his bags again and traveled to Mexico City for another Open BIM with Vectorworks presentation. Held at a university, the meeting was promoted by our distributor in Mexico, GrupoCVC, and it was well attended by local architects and post-grad students.

Stay tuned for more Open BIM news and events in the future.
