Santiago Townhouse wins British Homes Award 2011

Congratulations to Vectorworks user Alex King of Designalexable and Edward King (retired) who won the Future Homes category of the British Homes Awards 2011 for their design of the Santiago Townhouse.

Past president Judge S. Prasad and RIBA president Angela Brady present award to Edward King and Alex King.

The heart of the design addresses the need to build homes that adapt to the ever-changing lives of people. “I want to build homes that actively help people get on the housing ladder, or create a level of independence within a single structure,” explains King. “It’s important to accommodate disabled people, returning offspring or allow for a level of independence and privacy without leaving the family home.” This community-focused concept was inspired by a Georgian square layout. The townhouse is designed using the Future Form modular construction method, which ensures energy efficiency and limits site time, reducing the cost of construction and inevitably the cost of the home.

“I used Vectorworks software to model the project because it feels natural,” says King. “When modeling a design in 3D I often cut it apart and change ideas, and Vectorworks is an excellent tool for this type of proactive exploratory design style.”

We look forward to following the futuristic designs of Alex King and can’t wait to see what’s next.
