An open(BIM) minded meeting in Amsterdam

2010/09/30

Last week, Nemetschek Vectorworks’ own Jeffrey Ouellette traveled to Amsterdam for the bi-annual meeting of buildingSMART International’s Implementers Support Group (ISG). BuildingSMART supports the use of open international standards in the building and construction industries, and the ISG consists of vendors that support the use of IFC (Industry Foundation Class) software implementations.

The two-day meeting was held at the Bentley Systems office in Hoofddorp in the Netherlands, just outside Amsterdam. About 30 ISG members from around the world were in attendance to discuss technical and business issues, such as new certification for IFC export/import, and to share success stories. Jeffrey gave a presentation on Open BIM (Building Information Modeling) and the DC Riverside Office Building project, a collaboration between Nemetschek Vectorworks, Nemetschek Scia, and DDS-CAD.

Bart Rammeloo of Design Express, our Vectorworks distributor in Belgium, also attended the meeting, as did CTO Herman Oogink and Product Development Engineer Dennis Mensen of Nemetschek Scia.

Nemetschek Vectorworks fully supports the use of open standards, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to participate in events organized by buildingSMART.
